Bay Ridge

Overlooking the New York Bay lovely Bay Ridge consists of one,two and three family houses. Established as a town in 1662 Bay Ridge was called "Yellow Hook" because of the yellow clay in the soil. The name was changed in 1853 after New York suffered a Yellow Fever epidemic. By the end of the century it had become a waterside retreat for Manhattan wealthy families. With gorgeous mansions overlooking Shore Road. Members of the elite society gathered at the Crescent Athletic Club. ( now Fort Hamilton High School)With the arrival of the Fourth avenue Subway Line in 1915 many mansions were destroyed (except for Fontbonne Hall Academy at 9901-Shore Road Now a private girls school) and replaced by Hi rise apartment buildings. Bay Ridge is a neighborhood that has it all. From the amazing Restaurants on third Avenue to its wonderful schools and churches. Transportation with local buses to subways and express buses to take you into Manhattan. This quiet tree-lined neighborhood is warm and inviting to all. Welcome to Bay Ridge!!
